Shiemi is very shy and somewhat gullible. She wants to make friends and help people, though, and will rush in to do so while trusting that the ones who are ‘stronger’ will take care of everything else. She is clumsy and traditional and caring but very shy, even when working at her family’s supply shop which she has done all her life. Shiemi’s family has owned and operated an Exorcist supply shop for years and Shiemi was raised there by her mother and grandmother and has assisted in all aspects of the running the family business.

Because Shiemi has social anxiety, she missed a lot of school while growing up. In fact, she spent most of her childhood staying at home with her grandmother and learning about gardening. When she finds out that she has a gift as a Tamer, a rare type of Exorcist who can control a demon familiar, and has a talent for healing, she decides that she does want to become an exorcist after all and begins to really study and work hard towards that so she can help people and become strong enough to stand on her own.

If you can't find her, go look for a garden. Shiemi is a very talented gardener, almost genius level knowledge about plants and their uses. She uses her own pet-names for them most of the time: “Sancho-san”, for example, is aloe. She also has a very good apothecarial knowledge in general, and has a strong awareness and recognition of items and supplies that may be needed or used by Exorcists.

She is still in training to be an Exorcist. She is not yet trained very far in her innate ability and skill to ‘tame’ some demons. At this point she can do no more than handle her own familiar - an earth spirit called a ‘Greenman’. Through her Greenman, she has the ability to call forth plants, trees, seeds, flowers, etc.

To call her familiar, she requires a magic circle and some of her own blood. She always carries small papers on her person that have the summoning circle drawn on them, though she can draw it herself as needed. Anything erasing or disrupting the circle will cause her familiar to disappear again back to Gehenna. Once she calls “Nee-chan” out, though, she rarely returns him, so he can often be seen perched on her head or shoulder or being carried in her arms. Since he is a plant-based demon, she sometimes waters him or lets him sit in a bowl of water.

At 15 years old, Shiemi is five foot five (5’5”) with a good figure (108 pounds/49kg) and a rather large bust. She prefers dressing in traditional Japanese clothes and when she does, her breasts almost seem to vanish. (Until the last few months, Shiemi has spent her entire life in traditional Japanese clothing. She sometimes has to ask someone how to put on western-style clothing.) She has blonde hair, cut short in an almost pageboy, and green eyes.

Shiemi has incredible spiritual energy/stamina. This is commented on in canon: not only can she maintain her familiar in this world for long periods of time, but she has also maintained a demon-created shield against a medium level demon while suffering from a slow poisoning, long enough for a classmate to recite half of the Book of John. She can get pushy about healing someone if she has strong feelings for that person or if it’s a very dangerous wound/illness... but she’s easily turned away.

Shiemi possess at least two skeleton keys which never leave her person. One will make any door open to her family’s shop/home, and the other will make any door open into a corridor of the Exorcist Cram School. Different keys open doors to different places and owning multiple keys is a bonus when you are an Exorcist.
